Our beginnings
In 2001, Gwen Borders opened a tiny boutique patisserie and chocolaterie in Michigan named Trifles. It was a grand experiment in the middle of nowhere that grew into a destination for people seeking custom designed wedding cakes and fine European chocolates. Even theKnot magazine came out from their NYC headquarters to videotape a feature on Trifles. It was an honor to be recognized by the industry. Trifles is the proud recipient of many awards as well as magazine & news media credits. theKnot, Martha Stewart Weddings, The Oakland Press, The Detroit News, The Detroit Free Press, Hour Magazine, Metro Detroit Bride & The Hamptons Wedding magazine have all featured Trifles in their publications.
Moving On
We peaced out of White Lake in 2012 to move to a larger location in West Bloomfield. We continued to serve customers in the artisan cake and chocolate business while expanding our pastry, coffee and gourmet specialty products. (Pictured LtoR: son Noah, daughter Veronica, who are much older now.)
Pizza4Dessert is born
In 2013, Gwen saw a creative and culinary need for a dessert other than cupcakes or donuts. Pizza4Dessert(tm) was born. Some would call it a flan, galette or kringle, but it really does look and function like pizza. You can eat it with your hands. You can eat it warm, cold or at room temperature. It can serve a group and is great for parties or offices. (We have since rebranded Pizza4Dessert to include our savory line. It is now known as "Pastry Pizza by Trifles".
2018 Retirement & 2023 Return to the Marketplace
Fast forward 5 years in a post pandemic world. Gwen decided she needed to do more than vacays with beloved family. She headed to the local farmers market. To her bewilderment and surprise, Trifles had a reunion with the bestest and favoritest customers. Find us today
Today we operate out of a shared commercial kitchen in Sylvan Lake, Michigan. Order direct and get a porch drop. (Limited delivery area.) You can also pick up at Oakland County Farmers Market (in Waterford) on most Saturdays. We are also in select gourmet markets. Contact us to see if Pastry Pizza (tm) is in your neighborhood.
